Recycling @ GB

City of Indianapolis’ City-County Councilwoman, Angela Mansfield, presented a resolution to the City County Council recognizing Greenbriar Elementary School for their exemplary efforts in recycling!

In October, November, and December Greenbriar students, families, and staff participated in a phone book collection project that resulted in a collection total weighing 9.92 tons. The project was organized by the AT&T Recycling initiative, and of the 13 participating schools, Greenbriar came in first!

“I think the wonderful part of this project is the kids’ focus on saving trees,” said Kathy Robbins, sponsoring teacher at Greenbriar Elementary, and also Teacher of the Year for Washington Township. “The phone books are collected and made into pens, rulers, insulation, and even kitty litter.  It was wonderful to watch even the very youngest students in our school, come in daily dragging any phone book they could find.  They showed real commitment!”

For their efforts, Greenbriar Elementary School  will enjoy the first place cash prize of $650, plus a school assembly hosted by Radio Disney.

This project is an example of student action at Greenbriar.
